Laurel Richter, 41, Boise, died at home Jan. 8, 2001, following a nine year battle with cancer. Vigil services will be today at 7 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Boise. There will be a short reception following Friday's services at the parish hall adjacent to the church. Laurel was born Nov. 28, 1959, in Boise, Idaho, to Larry and Dinah Jackson. Laurel grew up in Boise attending Highlands Elementary, North Jr. High, and Boise High School. She attended Boise State University for two years before entering the workplace as a bank employee. Laurel ventured into various jobs, spending most of her employed time with Idaho First/West One Bank. Laurel was married to Gary Richter Sept. 24, 1983. Gary and Laurel moved to Yakima, Wash., shortly after their marriage. They then lived in McCall for one year before moving back to Boise in 1985. Laurel lived an active life. As a child Laurel loved to ride horses. She was an avid skier and participated in high school athletics. At Boise High, Laurel was a member of the cheerleading squad and played for the 1978 Boise High State Basketball Championship Team. As a young girl, Laurel spent summers with her family living in the major league cities where her father played baseball. As the mother of three children, Laurel was an exceptional youth sports mom. She often volunteered for duties related to her kids' sporting activities and was always an avid fan. She cherished the friendships developed with the families of the children with which her children participated. She allowed countless late night "coaches meetings" at her home. Laurel loved animals and had a special fondness for the many family pets, namely Rudy, Bailey and Graycee. Laurel's family includes her loving husband, Gary; children, Stephanie, Pete and Sam; her mother, Dinah; sister, Becky and her husband, Steve Wingett; brother, Curt and Jennifer Ysursa, all of Boise; brother, Craig and his wife, Nancy of Star; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Boise and Ontario areas. Gone before are her father, Larry, and grandparents. The family would like to thank the incredible staff at MSTI with a special thanks to Dr. Norman Zuckerman. Thanks also to the equally wonderful people of St. Luke's Four South and to the people of Hospice. The loving care and support that you gave Laurel will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for the Richter children in care of Laurel Richter Memorial Fund at any US Bank location. Visitation will be held today from noon until time of Vigil service at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.
